Young Future Food Movement nomination for Waarde-Ring 2025

Unfortunately the YFFM didn’t win, but still smiling

From October 4 to 11, 2025, the Netherlands focused on food, its origin, and awareness during Week of Our Food. This was the perfect opportunity to learn where your food comes from, how it is produced, and what impact it has on health, the economy, and society.

Across the country, numerous fun, educational, and tasty activities took place: from farm tours and cooking workshops to markets with local products and inspiring lectures. The week was structured around themed days such as Food Education, Minced Meat Wednesday, National Fruit and Vegetable Day, Fish Friday, Meet the Farmer Day, and Farmers & Markets. It was a week to see, taste, and understand how choices on your plate affect the world around you.

This year is extra special: the Young Future Food Movementtogether with Joshua Jacobs, the new chair, was nominated for the Waarde-Ring 2025 in the young food entrepreneur category. This provincial award honors individuals who strengthen the connection between farmers and citizens.

Unfortunately, they didn’t take home the award, but the nomination alone is already a great encouragement for what’s to come.

Had they won the prize, the funds would have been used to help set up a community kitchen on campus, a space for learning, sharing, and experimenting with food. It would also have supported the organisation of events to connect new members and empower them to launch their own initiatives within the movement.

The good news: these initiatives will move forward regardless, so keep an eye on the Young Future Food Movement via Future Food Utrecht to see what’s next.
