Operation Food Freedom Gein kicks off in Amsterdam!

Last week, Annet van Hoorn of Groen PlatVorm Zuidoost and Stichting Stadslandbouw Amsterdam started recruiting customers in her neighbourhood to start an Operation Food Freedom hub in Gein. For the residents that means: lots of fresh food for little, directly from farmers!

Annet had reached more than the minimum number of participants needed and now she will launch on 24 April!

Introduction
“My name is Annet van Hoorn and I live in the Gein neighbourhood in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Our neighbourhood has been around for almost 40 years now and some residents have lived there for so long! I’ve been part of the neighbourhood for ‘only’ 14 years. We love its location at the edge of the city, on the beautiful Gaasperzoom where many walkers come every day.”

“In ons stadsdeel hebben we veel buurtrestaurants, koks en mensen die graag koken, omdat het hen aan hun vaderland doet denken. Het is een fijn idee dat je weet van welke boer je groente en fruit komt. De boer kan wat meer verdienen en wij krijgen het een stuk goedkoper dan in de supermarkt. Dat vind ik een mooi gegeven. Ik hoop dat door deze plek mensen meer groenten en fruit gaan eten omdat het zo minder duur is. Ik zie veel ziekte om mij heen en ik heb erg het idee dat we door beter te eten gezonder blijven. Daar draag ik graag aan bij.”

“The Ster is a discontinued school used by all kinds of new initiatives and now also Operation Food Freedom Gein. It’s already a cosy place and I think people will love coming here to pick up their fruit and vegetables!”

Operation Food Freedom
Operation Food Freedom means lots of fresh food for little, directly sourced from farmers in Flevopolder, Amsterdam’s ‘backyard’.

Subscribe to fresh vegetables, fruit and eggs at a fair price of €17,50 a week. About 7.5 kg, that’s enough for 2-3 people.

Operation Food Freedom Gein will start the first distribution on Wednesday, April 24th, from 17:00-19:00 hr. Do you live in the area and want to join, as well? You can, you can start every week, order no later than a week in advance, i.e. before Wednesday 19:00. So if you want to pick up your first order on April 24th, order by Wednesday, April 17th, before 19:00!

The location is Buurthub de Ster, Woudrichemstraat 8, 1107 NG, Amsterdam.
